Founding Members: Carol Savio, Tom Johnston & Johan Strydom

Carol Savio

Carol has knowledge of both South Africa and East Africa Supply, having worked in Supply and Trading for the past 19 years. She was responsible for the supply of Mogas, Gasoil and Jet to the Marketers of one of the largest International Oil Companies based in South Africa and the supply of product to all its associates within Sub Saharan Africa by ship, road, rail and pipeline.  Before becoming a founding member of SJS Energy (Pty) Ltd, she held the position of Strategy Manager for the company’s International Supply & Trading division, and was responsible for key projects, delivering incremental profits, within the Sub Saharan Africa region.  

Carol resides in Cape Town, is married to Marco, a Client Manager in the IT sector, has two children and enjoys camping, travelling & spending time with friends.

Tom Johnston

Tom held the position of Logistics Manager and was a member of the Senior Management Team for one of the largest International Oil Companies based in South Africa.   From 1998 to 2006 he was responsible for all transport and fuel terminals throughout the Sub Saharan Region.  Before becoming a founding member of SJS Energy (Pty) Ltd he held the position of Africa Infrastructure Manager and was responsible for planning, development and rehabilitation of the company’s major logistics infrastructure. He has an intimate knowledge of road, rail, pipeline operations and depot networks throughout the region having worked within Sub Saharan Africa for the past 27 years. 

Tom resides in Cape Town, is married to Jacquie, an educational therapist, has two children and participates in bee-keeping, sailing, and travels through Africa in his spare time.

Johan Strydom

Johan has a broad spectrum of oil industry knowledge gained through hands-on experience across the Sales & Marketing, Property Development and Corporate level Planning & Strategy areas, gained during a 20 year career for one of the largest International Oil Companies based in South Africa . His experience includes specialised knowledge of capital management processes, merger, acquisition & divestment analysis & logistics chain, refining and infrastructure activity analysis. Before becoming a founding member of SJS Energy (Pty) Ltd, he held the position of Business Planning & Investment Analysis Manager, responsible for driving the investment framework of the company across Sub Saharan Africa & delivering integrated 5-year- cycle corporate plans for the company

Johan resides in Cape Town, is married to Karen, Risk Manager at an independent financial services company, has four pre-teenage children and indulges in surfing, scuba-diving and fishing whenever possible.
