Dr Adele Pretorius
Adele is a Clinical Psychologist and holds a PhD in Bio-systems Engineering. She has worked, first as a Clinical Psychologist and later as a Human Factors Specialist, in a number of industries with operations where safety is critical (i.e. mining, rail and road transport and petro-chemical) for the past 20 years.
Adele has specialized in human factors management for the past 14 years. As a Human Factors Specialist her role is the identification and mitigation of behavioural risks and the improvement of performance and minimizing of human error by optimising human-system interfaces. Specific interventions that Adele has developed include human factors audits and gap analyses, safety culture assessment and development, behavioural safety training, fatigue management, mental workload assessment, human error root cause investigation and safety and compliance management system development. Adele also has extensive knowledge of safety related legislation of Southern African countries.
She has been an independent consultant since 2005 and for the past 4 years she has been managing safety and compliance projects for a major oil company with operations across Southern Africa.
Adele is married to Johann and together they enjoy running, mountain biking and SCUBA diving and walking their 3 dogs in the mountain.
Scotty Allardyce
Scotty started driving heavy trucks in 1956 in South Africa and went on to drive in Australia, USA and Europe.
He started driver training for Mainline Carriers back in 1978 and went on to work for BP in 1980 as a driver trainer. During his 30 years as a driver trainer he developed training programmes for drivers such as loading/discharge procedures, fuel consumption driving, mountainous terrain driving, risk route assessment and foot printing.
Scotty was responsible for updating all driver trainers and drivers on new vehicles and tankers purchased as well as running the annual driver competitions in South African and Internationally. Scotty was also involved in vetting of contractors that worked for BP.
Lyndon John Smith
Lyndon arrived from Wales 34 years ago for a 3 year project and has only return home to Wales on holidays ever since!
Lyndon has over 30 years experience in road transport operations within the Oil Industry across sub Saharan Africa.
Lyndon is a leading consultant to the Oil Industry and many of the 3PL operators employed by the Oil Industry where he evaluates the areas of risk within the business, concludes a gap analysis and implements remedial action plans ensuring the highest level of compliance to not just the HSSE elements but also to the transport operating plans and technical specifications including investment and divestment policies.
Lyndon was the lead manager for the road transport operations Centre of Expertise for a leading International Oil company responsible for the setting and implementation of policy and approved operating standards ensuring Quality Compliance (QC) in their 8 Countries of operation across the African Sub continent. This produced an envious safety record within the Oil Industry.
Lyndon has been married to Judith for 30 years and has a daughter Danielle who is now based in London and a son Rhydian still a local boy.
Lyndon is a keen rugby supporter, plays golf and really enjoys walking their 3 Jack Russell terriers along the beach or in the forest with his darling Judith.
