TRANSPORT SAFETY AUDITING
Should you be worried?
Probably the biggest safety and reputational risks facing companies in South African and Sub-Saharan Africa are those associated with road transport risks.
SJS is in a position to offer a methodology to assess and manage this risk through its Transport Risk Assessment Protocol.
Most companies concerned with managing road risk have introduced a compliance transport auditing protocol which they use to evaluate their transport contractors. These audits effectively deal with compliance to transport standards and procedures.
Most standards and procedures however, are technical in nature and fail to evaluate the critical underlying link that technology and equipment has with the human operator. Human Factors lie at the root of most accidents and without examining the Human Factors link thoroughly, only a small part of the potential risks can be identified.
SJS offers an audit protocol that assesses your transport risk over and above mere compliance to standards and processes.
The SJS Transport Risk Assessment uses an audit protocol which will include the following audits conducted at each of your Depots:
· Operational Compliance Audit: measuring compliance to technical standards and operating procedures. Your existing audit protocol can be used.
· Human Factors Audit: identifies risk related to humans and their interface between equipment, technology and processes.
· Technical Audit: identifies technical risks including vehicle maintenance, equipment and design.
· Legal Compliance Audit: identifies where your company is at risk in breaking the law. This covers all Sub Saharan countries.
Risks will be identified and mitigating actions agreed and recorded during the physical audit.
The Audits will be assessed by a Human Factors and Technical expert who will also review the actions, and produce an overall formal
Transport Risk Assessment for each depot and transport contractor.
The SJS offer can either be a fully ‘outsourced’ service or an ‘out tasked’ service, where your company under license from SJS,
implements the SJS Risk Assessment Audit Protocol, and where SJS Human Factors and Technical experts review the audits and produce the final risk assessment:
A Risk Assessment is a fundamental safety management technique which must be as comprehensive and as impartial as possible.
SJS can help provide you with a fully comprehensive Risk Assessment, including Human Factors, for your company’s greatest risk lies in your road transport.
